(Massage therapy

A sports massage is a massage that aims to stimulate blood flow to the muscles, allowing waste products in your muscles to be drained faster, thus speeding up the recovery of your muscles and body.

Sports massage can be used preventively to avoid injury. A sports massage involves a firm massage that loosens connective tissue and removes knots from your muscles. This can only be done through deep massage which sometimes feels uncomfortable. After a few sessions, these massages become pleasant and addictive. Then remember that you have to bite through a sour apple before you start to feel better. After all, your body is signalling with this pain that something is not right and that is exactly what the sports masseur always keeps an eye on.

Before the massage starts, the sports masseur will discuss with you what you need at that moment and make sure the massage does not become too intense. You indicate which region could use a massage the most. For example, on your legs, shoulders, neck or back.

You can also use a sports massage to activate your muscles, for example at the beginning of a training programme or if you haven't done anything for a while.

In short, always perfect timing for the appropriate massage. Discover all the different types of massage styles below. For every moment or special purpose, a certain variant fits better.

Different types of massages

Deep-tissue massage

This is a vigorous massage consisting mainly of kneading, skin rolling, skin stretching and friction. The massage is performed with the hands, knuckles, forearms and elbows. This massage addresses general muscle tension and knots and focuses on the muscles, yet certainly also on the connective tissue around your muscles.

The massage starts gently, but soon the pressure is increased. Once the practitioner has identified where the pain points are, more force is applied. This massage has several health benefits. When spears are chronically cramped, the circulation of oxygen and blood is blocked locally. A deep tissue massage can release this blockage, scar tissue and adhesions can be loosened. By reducing tension and stress, this has a positive impact on your blood pressure. Not to mention; your body makes serotonin or the 'happiness hormone' during massage. Before you know it, you will (literally) feel great again.

Deep stretching (Stretch massage)

This treatment method consists of stretching, stretching and pressure points that will make your body flexible, mobile and more mobile after the massage. Whether avid athletes or vital people; everyone benefits and every body needs it. The benefits:

  • Improves your feelings (it relaxes, makes you aware)
  • Improves your circulation (blood, lymph)
  • Increase your range of motion, flexibility and mobility
  • Relaxes joints
  • Deepens your breathing
  • Improves injury prevention and proprioception
  • Improves (sports) performance
Cupping therapy

Cupping therapy (dry-wet) is an old form of massage that is becoming increasingly well-known. Cups made of plastic or silicone are placed on the skin and a pump creates a vacuum. The vacuum causes the skin and subcutaneous connective tissue to rise in the cup. This greatly increases blood flow in the treated area. You can also use these cupping cups to loosen adhesions in the connective tissue. You often see red round spots on the treated area after a cupping massage. This is because blood flow in that area is strongly stimulated by the vacuum in the cups. These red spots occur to a greater or lesser extent and depends on the intensity and method of cupping massage. This ensures the promotion of recovery after sports. This technique can help with the following complaints:

  • Neck, arm and shoulder complaints
  • Headache complaints
  • Muscle injuries
  • Cellulite
  • Adhesions in connective tissue and complaints arising from them
  • Scar treatment (older scars)
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Striae
  • Wrinkles
  • Clearing energy blockages
Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy helps during sports massage for relaxation that everyone can enjoy. The massage form is pre-eminently a blissful pampering moment for yourself. It is a contraction of the words aroma and therapy and stands for treatment with scents. Aromatherapy is mainly used for complaints related to tension, anxiety and insomnia. The fragrances are said to act on the subconscious and bring a disturbed nervous system back into balance. Both evaporation, perfume, diffusion and aroma oils are introduced during massage. All for a better and positive experience and to stimulate the sense of smell.

Heat therapy/cryotherapy (hot and cold)

Heat is used to reduce muscle tension and pain. It helps improve blood flow to the affected area. It can even reduce muscle spasms and increase flexibility and range of motion! Cold therapy or both cryotherapy helps relieve inflammation. It reduces stress, promotes sleep, can boost immunity and can help relieve symptoms of autoimmune diseases.

Scrapping therapy (Guasha)

This scraping technique or called Guasha is aimed at removing waste products from our body and establishing better circulation by removing blockages. In this treatment, a special oil is applied to the skin. With a special scraper, the skin is painlessly scraped. This causes places on the skin to turn red where blockages (waste products) are present.

  • This stimulates the immune system
  • Reduces tension (stress) and fatigue
  • Removes blockages and pain
  • Stimulates organ function
  • Regenerates and vitalises
  • Rebalances emotions
  • Relaxes and promotes clarity of mind
